SERVICES and Maison Du Chic at Glasslands
So the last time I went to Glasslands was to hit up th Lolita party back in early September as Lismore and Purple Crush were playing. Upon arrival to the Williamsburg venue after running all over the upper part of the borough of Brooklyn due to hopstop automatically assuming I meant Kent st. instead of Kent ave. which is all the way over by Queens I was met with a bouncer that meant business. My friend that I met at the venue got her friend to try to persuade the bouncer to let me in but had no luck after about a half an hour, this time was different though. I arrived at Glasslands promptly at 8:45 after treking from the Marcy Ave. JMZ stop in the pouring rain. I was greeted by a closed door and nothing to hide under. So I waited…. And waited…. and waited some more… Finally the bouncer that I was trying to void pulled up in his big SUV and all I had to sa was “FUCK.” My friends said that they got there early for Lismore and there was no bouncer, I figured it would be the same for this show. WRONG, as a matter of fact, it was the same bouncer that the 3 of us couldn’t persuade the last time. I know you’re getting as sick of reading this shit as I am typing it so let me jump ahead. I eventually got in and the first act, dubbed “Maison Du Chic” did their thing, I’m not really sure what you would call it, a “visual performance?” (http://www.maisonduchic.com/) Anyways, it was awesome, very original and cool concept that everyone in the venue seemed to enjoy. Next up was a band my friend hand told me so much about, she is overly obsessive with them after seeing them when they toured with The Faint earlier this year. After seeing tem live myself I can completely understand why that is. Their name is SERVICES (www.myspace.com/services) and they hail from BKLYN!!!!!!!!! (represent1_). Throught their whole set the Duo continued blasting their electronic beats with amazing intensity, I’ve never seen anyone jump around more than trztn with his drumstick smashing the lone cymbal upon every landing.
Anyways. Go see them, they were supposed to be playing at the Knitting Factory later this month but according to their Myspace that is canceled.
